California national park paintings by Topher Straus
California’s national parks
National park artist Topher Straus paints California’s national parks: Yosemite and Half Dome, the river and peaks of Kings Canyon, the Joshua trees of the desert, the steaming ground of Lassen and Zabriskie Point in Death Valley.

“Death Valley is a paradox—severe and stunning, silent and overwhelming. I painted this to hold its wild extremes and shimmering, otherworldly heat.”

About California’s national parks
California has nine national parks, more than any other state. Yosemite and Kings Canyon hold the granite and deep canyons of the Sierra Nevada; Joshua Tree sits where the Mojave and Colorado deserts meet; Death Valley is the hottest and lowest place in North America; and Lassen Volcanic is one of the few places on Earth with all four types of volcano.
