San Francisco’s Chinatown, founded around 1848, is the oldest Chinatown in North America and one of the largest outside Asia; its Lunar New Year parade is the biggest of its kind outside Asia. Across the Bay Bridge, opened in 1936, the Port of Oakland is one of the busiest container ports on the West Coast, its cranes visible from the city.
