Italy paintings by Topher Straus
Italy
Topher Straus paints Italy: the Dolomites at sunrise above a small hillside chapel, and Tuscany seen from the window of a plane coming down through the clouds.
“The Dolomites at sunrise stopped me in my tracks. This piece captures that rare stillness when the world holds its breath.”

The Italy paintings
Two paintings of Italy.
Where each painting stands
Every painting begins with a real place.
About the Dolomites and Tuscany
The Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northeastern Italy, are made of pale mountain limestone that turns pink and orange at sunrise and sunset, a glow the Ladin people call enrosadira. Tuscany appears here from above rather than from the road: the patchwork of the land seen through a plane window, the moment the clouds break on landing.
