Iceland paintings by Topher Straus
Iceland
Topher Straus paints Iceland: Kirkjufell rising beside its waterfalls on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula beneath a glowing sunset, and Goðafoss, the Waterfall of the Gods, in the north.

“I was mesmerized by Iceland’s landscapes—Kirjufell felt like stepping into another planet. I poured that sense of wonder into this piece.”

About Kirkjufell and Goðafoss
Kirkjufell, “church mountain”, stands alone above the fishing town of Grundarfjörður on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, with the small falls of Kirkjufellsfoss in front of it. Goðafoss, the Waterfall of the Gods, drops the glacial river Skjálfandafljót in a wide horseshoe in the north of the island; by tradition it takes its name from the year 1000, when Iceland adopted Christianity and the old idols were thrown into the falls.
