About the Flatirons
The Flatirons are tilted slabs of Fountain Formation sandstone, laid down roughly 290 million years ago and pushed up on edge when the Rockies rose. They stand above Chautauqua Park on the city’s open space, the backdrop to almost every view of Boulder.
