Zion National Park paintings by Topher Straus
Zion National Park, Utah
National park artist Topher Straus paints Zion National Park, Utah: the sandstone walls and river of the canyon, and the water rushing through The Narrows. Zion was the first landscape he ever painted.

“This is actually my very first landscape I ever did. At first, I was not intrigued by landscapes at all. I had a friend who wanted me to do a commission of his favorite park, Zion.”

About Zion and The Narrows
Zion was Utah’s first national park, established in 1919, its canyon cut by the North Fork of the Virgin River through walls of Navajo sandstone. In The Narrows the canyon closes to as little as twenty or thirty feet wide between walls up to a thousand feet high, and the trail is the river itself.
